It’s all about optics - leadership is terrible

Pros

Large company, decent pay, good benefits & retirement. Company is in great shape financially.

Cons

Hard work and experience is not valued. It’s all about optics’s and metrics. They continually promote people into district management who have had very little success. They spend so much money on outings for their “chosen groups” yet continually blast the stores about expenses and ot. And they get to have these outings all the time. District management is literally a revolving door so there is pretty much no leadership. The hardest working, experienced employees who service the largest, demanding customers are run into the ground. Employee retention is not a thing, they do not care.

Pros

They pay well, especially if your in management and meet your quarterly sales goals. Super easy to rise to upper level positions if you work hard and meet their requirements. They have a great HR department. And they truly care about their customers and make a great paint product. I also appreciated how seriously they took to training their employees.

Cons

Some of their sales goals can be unrealistic, especially for newer stores. The stress to meet sales goals is eventually why I resigned (along with some of the difficulties at the beginning of the Global pandemic of COVID in 2020). As much as they are all about safety, a lot of stores don't have security systems (again depends on the area) to protect the merchandise.

"fake it til you make it"

Pros

It's mostly a show job either dealing with contractors or DIY customers. The job itself is quite easy, you stand around waiting for a call or a customer or you're putting away truck orders.

Cons

Until you know EVERYTHING in the store you'll never feel comfortable giving people advice. I wished in my down time I could've had a book to read about our products but my boss literally told me "fake it til you make it" and usually that's solid advice but I was not willing to ruin someones new deck stain or the siding of their houses... ***ALSO FOR THE WOMEN*** once you hit 90 days you are given keys and can open and close and run the store alone. A lot of these contractors are creeps. In the three months I worked there I had two come behind the counter and touch me and another time a guy made some crude remarks INFRONT OF MY BOSS! He made a report of it and stuck up for me which was nice but just know that you'll more than likely be alone around desperate men.
