Running a successful store requires your time. I am not against putting in 50 hours a week, but Sherwin-Williams just does not make it seem worth it. With mandatory overtime every week, I am still only bringing home a $43,000 annual salary. Being placed as an assistant manager in a store that has seen (slightly) declining sales in the last few years, I see very little bonus quarterly payout to aid my salary. Which is unfortunate, because I am still putting in crazy amounts of overtime to run a (roughly) $1.5 million dollar store due to a bare minimum staff. The time I put into my store, is not worth what is being offered to me. I can't tell you how many times I have had contractors ask or say to me, "Why are you the only one here?" "Where is your help?" "You must be the most hardworking girl I know, you're ALWAYS here."
I fully understand that I have the power to move up in the company and get myself out of my current situation. But it's a gambling game. There are so many factors besides management that drive sales down in a store. Do I want to put in endless hours for a mediocre salary at best? I've seen the brightest people get burnt out at Sherwin-Williams. And it's not because it's a challenging career. It's because there is little fulfillment gained to the job we are pouring our lives into.
