I wanted to say that I am glad to read that you value the people here as we do appreciate that Shopify is a company built on the talent and effort of every member of its workforce. In order to build a 100 year company, Shopify is very conscious about hiring a diverse team of talented individuals who are passionate about their areas of expertise. Shopify understands that building diverse teams leads to effective problem-solving, innovative thinking, and we value the fresh perspectives people offer to their team and ultimately to the wider company. Regardless of how many talented individuals Shopify has, we are most successful when we operate effectively as a team, and when diverse voices, and varying opinions are valued. It was concerning to read in your review that you don’t feel like your voice is being heard on your team. It is worth noting that successfully bringing a team of talented individuals together to achieve a common goal can be a challenging task even for an experienced lead . Given the rapid growth of Shopify, we do have some new leads who have been promoted into some very challenging situations. To support these new leads, we have a range of internal leadership training programs to help them level-up from their place of technical mastery to mastering people leadership. If you have tried your best to advocate for creating an environment where diverse perspectives are valued on your team and you still find yourself in a position where you are not feeling heard by your lead or the broader leadership team, I would encourage you to reach out to your HR Business Partner (or to a HRBP from another team whom you trust) to discuss the matter further. You can also reach out to the coaches network to discuss techniques for working with your team and sharing feedback.
