I liked more the old Shopify

Pros

- CEO is awesome when it comes to tech, a very smart person - Product is amazing and changes people's life

Cons

After pandemic I feel like the company started hiring a lot of enterprise people from other companies, so it lost it's essence. It's definitely not the same Shopify it use to be. The culture deteriorated from within after that, to the point it was no longer a good place to work.

Pros

Your Shopify experience will depend heavily on where you land in the company, but I found it to be a highly supportive, caring environment with exceptional coworkers and very good pay, comparative to everywhere except the elite FAANG titans. Work-life balance is stellar, outside occasional deadline crunches. The company cares about the right things and generally does right by its people (even during layoffs).

Cons

The only two main cons of Shopify are: 1) it may not pay as well as the elite tech giants (although it still pays very well, in my opinion); and 2) there's a lot of bureaucracy. Not as bad as some companies, but there's WAY too much sending things three levels up the chain and waiting to get the inevitable swoop-and-poop from the execs, and then having to rework everything right before the deadline.

Great learnings, confused management

Pros

- Very very smart people to learn from and be inspired by - Exposure to huge scale systems - Not afraid to change and experiment with new technologies - Nice salaries (for Engineering, at least) - Decent perks - No micromanagement, flexible work hours - D90 (work from anywhere in the world for up to 90 days) - Unlimited vacation

Cons

- Senior Leadership (C-level and direct reports) seem to get bored of the status quo once or twice a year and completely change everything - Often you might change teams because of a re-org and this may or may not impact your performance review progress - Promotions were once frequent, but now seem hard to come by
