Pros

-Passionate about business -Reputable in the industry -Great work/life balance -Mid-sized company -Exciting environment

Cons

-If you aren't a musician you may not feel a part of the corporate culture (tight-knit) with many lifers -The commute can be terrible depending on where you are traveling from -Hard to retain talent (especially executive level) -Like all companies, Shure has the "corporate" culture with lots of red tape and slow decision making

Pros

For a while this can be a lifestyle job. This is a company where you don't want to be standing at the doors at 4:30 PM. You will be crushed as the employees run out the door. The offices become dead silent after 4:30 PM. The company does provide decent benefits, though pay is well below average for similar work. There are numerous wanna-be musicians working in various low level jobs as they wait for the big break in the music business. The company occupies a beautiful building, though it is near a lower-end strip-mall and railroad tracks.

Cons

People are promoted simply by who likes them in senior management. Competence is not considered. There is considerable pressure to "dumb-down" your knowledge because senior management may be intimidated by excellence. Don't join this company if you have an MBA or have worked for a professional, competent organization. You will climb the walls. The company has a very poor track record in retaining employees. Highly competent people are regularly fired because of politics. There is much employee turnover. The future of the company after the current owner (a very old woman with no prior business experience - she inherited the company) is very uncertain despite management's assurances to the contrary. BEWARE - the company has the reputation of eavesdropping on employee phone calls and monitoring emails to determine if anyone is saying anything negative about the owner.

Pros

People - very passionate about the industry and what they do. Diverse group. Work/Life Balance - some overtime is necessary, but not required. Great benefits - They are always re-evaluating and providing additional benefits without greatly increasing costs.

Cons

Unclear roles and responsibilities. Private company that is very protective of information, even within the walls of the company. Lacking clarification for internal movement and development. Inter-departmental communication and team work are challenging. Large company that still thinks of itself as a small company. #1 company in the industry, but probably not for long, as the company has been resting on it's laurels for awhile now.
