Pros

- Meaningful work with substance. Your work has a direct impact on the firm. - I.T. teams and Development team work well together. - The firm does a great job of keeping technology current. - There is a lot of opportunity to learn and expand your knowledge within the firm. - Company pension - Vacation Time - On-Site Gym - On-Site cafe is awesome - Very competitive pay / bonus structure - Good work/life balance

Cons

- No 401k matching. Sidley makes up for this with a great pension plan. This is the only con I could think of. I enjoyed my time at Sidley. The team functions like a well oiled machine and above all else management has a genuine interest in your morality at the firm. If you are afforded the opportunity to join the firm, I highly recommend it.

Management needs to improve dramatically

Pros

New coffee machines are ok I suppose.

Cons

Currently working here so not a disgruntled employee, the management is horrendous. Job roles are not clear, 100% silos between departments, and the office politics is unbearable. Everyone feels entitled and no one is capable of assuming responsibility. You will get thrown under the bus at the first opportunity. Culture is non existent. There are no team building events, no sense of collegiality, and if you’re not a lawyer, you’re quickly disregarded.

Non-lawyers be careful

Pros

Prestigious law firm, nice work facility, you'll learn and grow with some of the smartest people around.

Cons

Insurance is crap and pay raises aren't great. If you're not a lawyer, no one really cares about you since the lawyers are the firm's only and main revenue. That's understandable since it's a law firm and is in no way bashing the lawyers, but it leads to many staffers (non-lawyers) being treated poorly. Some lawyers are incredible, while many are straight up abusive. If they're a partner or rainmaker, it won't matter how they treat others. Firm has a mixed message on mental health and well being. One part promotes wellness, while still citing the message of "the work must get done." Staff are not paid anywhere close to what the lawyers make (which is understandable), but are expected to work and burn the same amount of hours. Staff are also blamed for the lawyers' problems, even if they had nothing to do with something. Many staffing departments have retention and turnover issues.
