Great business, bad culture

Recommend
CEO approval
Business Outlook

Pros

- Growing business - Good (but not exceptional) compensation and benefits - Unlimited PTO (on paper)

Cons

- Excessive control and oversight, coupled with a lack of autonomy and independent thought. The co-founders of the company tend to involve themselves in a lot of projects (unfortunately, on the final stages), neglecting the focus on strategic, high-level issues as they should. They also fail to nurture their staff. Instead, both of them chose to contribute to the code. - Immature management style. Instead of concentrating on the necessary tasks, a significant portion (though not all) of the company managers and senior employees strive to please the co-founders. - Absence of personal and professional growth — the career ladder remains intentionally ambiguous, and the feedback from management lacks practicality. Professional advancement hinges on project completion rather than impact or influence itself. - Bad company culture. Recent abrupt departures (including layoffs) have created voids in both the company's culture and its org structure. Core teams are overworked and demotivated, some of the team members explore opportunities elsewhere. - Lack of good product management. Much like the co-founders, the PMs lean towards the other important tasks rather than setting a clear vision for their domains.

Volatile startup

Pros

the people who work there are very nice. the compensation plan is very generous 20% starting commission up to 35%.

Cons

Lots of turnover, lots of leadership changes, must come into the SF office, and if you aren't aligned to successful snowflake reps you won't make any money and then be fired.

I'm glad that you see the compensation plan as being generous - we work hard to ensure that our most successful Sales reps are compensated above market rates. What we find is that the reps that have strong work ethics and are prepared to invest in developing strong reciprocal relationships across our ecosystem partners are often the most successful so we invest heavily to help make that happen.. As for coming to the office, that's something we are very proud of - we have an in office culture because we passionately believe that by being together we are more successful. We understand that this is not for everyone but we are keen to ensure that people are clear about our approach upfront. I'm sorry that you haven't enjoyed your time with us and wish you all the best for the future.

Pros

- Nice office in SF... although SF isn't what it used to be - Pay and benefits are good - Solid investors led by industry legend Mike Speiser. I don't imagine they will allow this company to fail. - Industry is exciting - If you're in sales and doing well, life is GOOD

Cons

- Cutthroat culture - CEO is a tiny bully man - Behavior of leadership at events and after working hours totally unprofessional - Slow growth - If you work in marketing... good luck. you're gonna need it. - In person employees favored over remote. First time CEO is enamored with having a chic SF building full of workers. - No 401k match

Thank you for your comments. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your time with us - as you know our culture is one of collaboration and humility and by that we mean that we all expect to give feedback freely and receive it with openness. We believe that that approach helps us to ensure that the cross functional collaboration that is crucial to our growth continues. We also believe that that works best in person - it's far easier to innovate and collaborate with our peers and other functions in an open and curious way when we are all standing around an actual whiteboard! We know that that is not for everybody so while we are sad when people choose to go onto other adventures we are glad that they will have an opportunity to find a place that works better for them. I hope that that is the case for you. With regards to our growth - I'm not sure that I would characterize 300% Y/Y growth as slow but I guess it's all relative! Wishing you all the best for the future.
