Pros

Name recognition as one of the big 5 in publishing.

Cons

Management is verbally and mentally abusive, provides little to no support ( especially with being trained), advocates for you to work through your lunch, offers practically zero help towards improving you and your work, and it feels like swimming in shark-infested waters with a bleeding wound. You will also be doing at least 3 different jobs while being paid for half of one.

Pros

- access to pre-pub books - great community of entry level employees

Cons

- ceo micromanages all of the departments and makes decisions without consultation - expected to work long hours and have email access 24/7 - not paid a living wage - impossible to be promoted within your current role - jobs aren’t filled when people leave, they’re just given to current employees who already have full time workloads

Pros

The free books are honestly so great. The almost make up for the low salary. You occasionally get to meet some famous authors and the people you work with are incredibly smart.

Cons

Upper management tends to treat the assistants very poorly. Often very rude because you're at entry level. And If you are a person of color, good luck. Implicit racism is very real here.
