Fortune Brands - Interested in profit - People are disposable

Pros

Windows are excellent, made-in-America, products. People at the factory and lower management levels are excellent, hard working, and dedicated. At one time, the company acted as a family.

Cons

Executive management doesn't have concern for workers. Decisions are made that negatively affect workers based solely on impact to executive proift and bonuses. Company moved out of WV to Columbus, OH and let 30% of employees go from corporate HQ to get cheaper labor. Fortune Brands sold the golf ball manufactuing off to Korea. Some employees had to move to a competing window company in WV to survive. Known to lay-off people by email and make up reasons for dismissal.

Decent work environment, but management is the worst.

Pros

Pay is decent when compared to similar positions. Benefits are average... health, dental, 401k, disability. No pension though. Comfortable work environment.

Cons

Expected to work extra hours on a regular basis. Management is incompetent. Mid-level managers will throw you under the bus to save their necks.

Company has a history of providing recognized quality product. People are dedicated to doing the best job they can under their circumstances.

Cons

Fortune Brands management has taken the family and team aspect out to concentrate on short term profits and company value for potential investor sale.
