Pros

- Lovely immediate colleagues meant a low-stress, convivial team atmosphere to work in - A model of supportiveness (esp team lead) when I experienced a major bereavement - CTO is a sharp cookie who negotiated a tricky and unpopular restructure well and has eye on the ball with AI - Lot of scope in the team I was in to experiment and trial new technologies

Cons

- Opaque promotion process that never gets mentioned by senior management and may or may not involve a very out-of-date career framework that doesn't match any role. It was all too easy to leave for better prospects. - Politics over productivity - Some unimpressive senior managers more focussed on looking good than understanding the systems and people they are managing. - The "Simply Business spirit" that is still sometimes invoked has long gone

Good but could be great…

Pros

Flexibility and autonomy in a lot of roles Very solid benefits and rewards including PMI Beautiful offices with plenty of (free) drinks and snacks, and spaces for wellbeing or prayer Great tech to allow you to do your job in an efficient way Real investment in some aspects of employee experience such as a company trip, annual awards, regular community events and workshops It feels as though everyone really is working toward one goal; championing SMEs.

Cons

Increasing division between areas of the business is driving a wedge in the culture A lot of additional responsibilities/picking up slack of others with no compensation Difficult to progress or meaningfully develop for the majority Wellbeing and genuine want to champion it has wilted over the last few years Creeping sense of uncertainty/lack of job security Pay didn’t feel comparable to market value

Not the place it used to be

Pros

Everyone is generally nice and friendly

Cons

- Losing the culture that once made it a great place to work & has now become more corporate - Management changing priorities - Seems to be all about output now and velocity as have recently introduced performance based bonuses. - Several restructures lately but it's all done undercover and not communicated which has led to teams competing with each other as to who can deliver the most, as there is an underlying fear that their team will be restructured if targets are not met
