Pros

company luncheons every few months (since it’s a bigger market), I have a fairly stable schedule, nice non-management co workers. I do as little as possible and act my wage.

Cons

Awful management is rewarded/issues are ignored until you threaten the company in some way, pay is not where I needs to be for the cost of living, you had “Must Runs” that are conservatively skewed and not trying to hide it, almost everyone is under contract even though this is not a beginner market. They lock you in because they know how bad people would quit if they didn’t. Many employees do not re-sign and if they do, it’s because they couldn’t get a job at the right timing or they just choose to break a contract because it’s more worth it to deal with legal issues than tolerate Incompetence decision makers.

Pros

You can really do whatever you want as long as you meet their very low bar for quality. They aren't skilled enough or brave enough to confront you effectively, which is entertaining at times, You can also protect your job easily while being incredibly lazy by being "loyal" to their conservative worldview. You'll get repeatedly promoted, but there are no pay increases besides an annual sub 1% pittance.

Cons

Pay is insulting. You work with the bottom of the barrel in national talent, which is embarrassing at times. You'll have to pretend to be a Conservative/MAGA while there and a lot of their "writing preferences" are based on traditions they were handed but don't understand. You'll only write about how icky transgender people are or how evil the "left" is, and SBG will do its best to get you to mislead readers about those topics with an emphasis on weasel-wording your work to make it lawsuit-proof. I don't think they believe anyone reads past their headlines, which is one of the things we agree on, if so. Also, good luck having your work respected by anyone in the industry after having your name in SBG station bylines, As for the day-to-day, they fail at basic information comprehension very frequently and you'll need to make sure to fight against their commands and CYA. They'll throw you under the bus at first sign of trouble. This is by far the most taxing part of any job there, but I navigated it easily enough for about 3 years by putting on the desired act until I found a better-paying job in media, which hopefully you'll understand took FOREVER. You should fear being trapped here.
