Old Company that thinks it’s 1983

Pros

Because management doesn’t care or want to be there you can just put fake meetings on your calendar & leave for the day. That’s what most of the sales people do I. The office I worked.

Cons

Management is a joke. The 2 fools that ran the stations should have never been promoted. It’s typical corporate strategy of when an employee has shown up 40 hours a week for 5 years it’s time to get promoted. There isn’t a sales manager in the building that actually understands why a customers buys or can even train anyone to sell. Probably because your products are horrible. Just Google Datasphere to see one of the types of companies that Sinclair purchases & claims are best in class. Everyone knows Sinclair shops the clearance isle. My direct manager even said that he would never hire a company that advertises on our station because they’re wasting their money on marketing instead of the quality of their work. Another time I was told the the manager didn’t have time to discuss a deal with me because $15,000 wasn’t worth his time. But the real joke is that managers get bonuses on the number of “actions” you do in the CRM. That’s literally all they care about. You won’t make money here in sales because whenever a salesperson leaves they take all the high dollar a clients & make them house accounts.

Toxic Work Environment

Pros

- Good enough benefits - Yearly bonus dependent upon sales and rating goals

Cons

- Toxic work environment affects your mental health - Compensation is ridiculously low in some positions, especially if you are not in sales - Upper management is very unprofessional, often belittling you and throwing you under the bus. If you are not on their good side, don't expect to be invited to team outings, events, etc. - Stuck in the "old school ways" which is a reflection on how they operate the business (no flexibility, no working from home, "work your way up" mentality, young people are not taken seriously, these are just a few examples) - If you leave the office even a minute early you will get in trouble - Depending on what department you are in, the culture is different - Not everyone gets a yearly raise and it doesn't depend on performance - The building needs a lot of remodeling, it is embarrassing to have guests over but I don't think management realizes that

Avoid Sinclair

Pros

Hard to come up with any.

Cons

Poorly managed local station. Corporate management is arrogant and just plain nasty with an unmatched ego. Sinclair does not invest in their employees and has very little regard for their welfare. I’ve worked for other broadcast companies, know the landscape and this is a commonly held position in the industry, especially among former employees.
