Pros

Plenty of opportunities to get your foot in the door. Freedom to express your talents and abilities on interesting and important stories. There are lots of talented and good people working hard alongside you. The boots on the ground truly care about the stories they labor to tell. It’s certainly exciting at times and I truly learned something new every day on the job.

Cons

-Little room for job advancement. -Low starting wages. -Less than significant yearly raises. I present to you the 3 L’s of today’s local news business model. If you enter a job here, be prepared to find that the only promotion to a better job will be found at the next shop. Don’t expect to be thanks or applauded for coming through under duress. There’s not much reward or recognition for individual or team efforts. I’ve watched the most talented people I’ve ever worked with be denied promotions/raises/bonuses, year after year. All of this will probably sound like sour grapes, but I’m genuinely saddened to see what I respected as a worthy and noble profession be wrung out for every last drop by greed. It’s an industry-wide issue and that’s why only those who can wholeheartedly dedicate their entire selves to their work can stay in it for the long haul anymore.

Pros

Good experience for entry level, but have an exit strategy in year 1.

Cons

Bad management from top down, honestly believe they think of their employees as machines. There was little to no culture pre-covid, going remote has only brought more delegation from management and employee layoffs.

Pros

good to just get your foot in the industry but that's about it

Cons

Terrible management, employees are not valued, horrible culture, it's a boy's club, could and should be more diverse
