Pros

The benefits are good, but not worth the trouble.

Cons

I worked at Slalom for 6 months, in that time my manager was on leave for my first 5 months. The person who trained me did not give me the time of day, and when I asked for help he was very dismissive. I taught myself everything I could and finally felt comfortable in the role. When my manager returned, I expressed what happened, and she said she would help train me. We were to meet weekly in person, and she was to assign me trainings. We met one time, after that she cancelled every other time with no explanation. She started taking things off my plate without telling me, and never provided trainings. I was made to feel extremely incompetent, and like a complete failure. I had NO SUPPORT from anyone on the team. When I left, they did not even address my departure, I disappeared from thin air. For a "fiercely human" company, they are FAR from it.

Pros

- Local only consulting option for the Big 4 needing a pause - Family friendly

Cons

Note: Each office is different. - Sr leadership in Atlanta office is comfortable and not going anywhere. Someone has to die to get promoted into that circle or revenues have to increase enough to justify a new MD - Don't be fooled by the warm embrace; the culture is brutal. Reviews focus on 'polish' and other subjective areas to hold back talent because of the crew atop (see above) - Worst kept secret: Slalom bids with its collective capacity and experience across offices but struggles to bring that strength to bear on large projects.

Pros

Some work-life balance if you are on a chill project. Not guaranteed at all.

Cons

This firm suffers from the problems that plague big consultancies, in addition to problems that plague small boutique firms due to its medium size. There is the classic diversity only at the bottom problem, with white men occupying most of the actual executive positions. As a woman of color leader, I have been interrupted constantly on the job, been the victim of favoritism, and have been left out of the boys' club culture of firm veterans, most of whom are white males. Among the rest of the employees, there is a very obvious cliquey culture where if you are in the office sitting by yourself, nobody will come approach you and introduce themselves. People stick to who they know. Also, gossip spreads like wildfire and it feels like high school all over again. Sometimes I can't believe this is an actual company. Also nobody really has company pride, and those that do would obviously want to work for a more prestigious company like MBB or tech. Everyone here is obviously here for the promised-but-not-guaranteed work life balance and job security. If you have a more prestigious offer, take it. We are all trying to leave.
