Pros

I learned a lot during my time at Smarsh. I had the opportunity to work with some amazing people who took their time in educating and working with me to help make the Smarsh systems more robust and more reliable. Employee perks were great, although it felt like the company was holding onto a fresh startup mindset, which new management was pushing to move away from.

Cons

New management that was brought in to the Site Reliability Engineering team did not want to see the entire team succeed. For myself and others on the team, there was no focus in helping to grow, adapt, and succeed. For me personally, there was collaboration between management and HR to eliminate me from the company. Management's goal should be on helping their employees grow and succeed, but unfortunately for me, my use of FMLA resulted in discrimination, backed by HR. Ultimately I decided to leave Smarsh because of this discrimination and because of family health issues that demanded my attention. I can only believe that HR's involvement in this decision was entirely due to a lack of FMLA education, and I hope that either that HR representative is no longer with Smarsh or has been properly informed on how NOT to handle such issues going forward.

Good if you don’t want to work but want to watch Netflix all day

Pros

The benefits are really good and competitive with the industry.

Cons

Everyone is miserable. Nobody has passion for the product or customers, which leads to unhappy coworkers with little motivation. Many departments do less than the bare minimum and managers don’t care. Senior management is very out of touch with all departments except sales. If you want to feel passionate about you work, don’t work here, you will only run into brick walls. Customers only stay because it’s too difficult to move their services to a different provider. There are also some inflated egos with mid and upper management. There are a lot of cliques and gossip with a very high school feel.

Smarsh Response

Thank you for your feedback. We certainly agree with your comment that our employee benefits are really good and competitive within our industry, we work hard to maintain this every year. We are certainly disappointed, that as a former employee, you had a less than satisfactory experience. Our executive team takes great pride in our employees as the foundation of our success and it is certainly not our intention to demotivate anyone. We take an employee engagement survey 3 times a year to keep a pulse on how employees are feeling and provide an outlet for leadership feedback. In the survey completed in March, "my leader cares about me" ranked at the 2nd highest response. We do acknowledge that we are by no means perfect and will do our best to make Smarsh a place where employees can recognize their potential and happy to come to work. We again thank you for your feedback as it keeps us mindful of this objective and helps us to improve. Brian Cramer - Chief Executive Officer

Pros

It used to have heart and soul and be the best place to work!

Cons

The new leadership has been heartless and ruthless to all employees who have been there long before them. Lay offs included laying off employees (asking them to say on for a project) and filling their positions in front of them with off shore hires.
