Pros

It is very rare to find a place as great as SEPA. Not only do we have a wonderful mission, but we get to work with the best and brightest in the clean energy industry. Despite rather significant changes, such as two recent mergers with other non-profits, we have maintained a robust and collaborative culture. Not only does everyone get alone very well, in many ways it feels much more than work, it is like family. We do a lot for such a small team and it is largely because we all help each other achieve our collective goals. Further, in an era where most organizations are cutting benefits, SEPA continues to expand ours. I am blown away by the generosity of the organization - not just in compensation - but health care, 24 days of paid leave, commuting benefits, cash to cover the annual out-of-pocket health care deductible, and 401k match program!

Cons

Limited opportunities to work remotely and I wish there was paid paternity leave - otherwise the benefits are fantastic and top of class. Given that it is such a small organization, upward mobility can be somewhat limited depending on the department.

Pros

SEPA offers a good work environment if you’re comfortable with change and uncertainty. The people are great—friendly, collaborative, and easy to work with. Pay is fair, especially considering the solid work-life balance. Benefits are reasonable, and the time off policy is generous.

Cons

The organization has experienced significant change over the past six years, including turnover at multiple levels and re-orgs roughly every two years. While the team is talented, there hasn’t been a strong focus on attracting seasoned professionals with deep utility and electricity industry experience, which presents an area for growth. SEPA’s potential lies with its new leadership, but successfully managing future changes will be key to minimizing further staff turnover.
