Stable company with real remote flexibility

Pros

After spending years at high-growth startups, the biggest thing I appreciate about SmartAsset is stability. The company still has the pace and energy of a growing tech company, but leadership tends to be thoughtful and measured about decisions rather than chasing every shiny object. Remote work is real here — not the “remote but everyone actually lives in one city” type. People are spread across the country and it works well. There’s a lot of autonomy and trust to manage your own schedule and work style. Compensation is strong if you perform, and the company has been steadily growing the business rather than overextending itself. Some people might look at the benefits and think they’re not as flashy as big tech or some startups like to advertise. But personally I’d take a company that is growing profitably and building something sustainable over one that offers tons of perks but ends up doing layoffs when the market shifts.

Cons

Benefits overall are solid, but I would love to see the 401(k) match grow over time. For a company centered around helping people make smart financial decisions, that’s one area that feels a little light compared to other places I’ve worked.

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful perspective on your experience at SmartAsset. We’re glad to hear that the balance between growth and stability has stood out to you. Building a company that can grow sustainably while still maintaining the energy and opportunity of a tech environment is something we care deeply about. We also appreciate the feedback around benefits and leadership engagement. As the company continues to grow, we’re always evaluating how our programs evolve and how we create more opportunities for leaders across the organization to contribute to strategic conversations.

Pros

They have a strong compensation if you hit your number and a genuinely positive work culture. The people are great to collaborate with, creating a supportive and enjoyable team environment. Upper management actively listens to feedback and makes a real effort to implement improvements based on employee input. On top of that, most of the managers foster a relaxed, non micromanaging atmosphere that allows employees to work independently. When I started at the company, I had no knowledge of the finance industry, but the training program equipped me with everything I needed to succeed. Now, I’m able to confidently speak with financial advisors and truly understand their language, which has been a huge part of my growth and success in the role.

Cons

Success doesn’t happen overnight, you have to put in consistent effort to build a strong pipeline and be patient as results take time to develop. The role requires a high level of activity, including a minimum of 80 dials a day. That said, for those who stay committed, work hard, and stick it out, the effort can pay off in a big way. I’m grateful every day that I pushed through the most challenging periods of my career here. The payoff has been more than worth it.

Reading this from someone who’s grown their career here over five-plus years means a lot. We’re proud to be a performance-driven organization where compensation aligns with results and success is earned through consistent effort. Sales isn’t easy, and building pipeline takes discipline and patience — but as you shared, the payoff can be significant for those who stay committed. It’s also great to hear that our training helped you confidently step into a new industry and develop the expertise needed to succeed. Equipping people with the tools and knowledge to grow is something we’re very intentional about. Thank you for sharing your experience and for being part of the culture you described. — The SmartAsset People Team

Pros

Good Pay and decent coworkers

Cons

Spinning your wheels and being punished for not performing well due to a product that is not well received. Forget a PIP. They'll let you go in a snap of a finger.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and I’m truly sorry to hear it didn’t reflect what we work hard to create for our Account Executives. I care deeply about building a team where AEs feel supported, have access to hands-on managers, and are given every opportunity to succeed. Over the past year, we’ve focused heavily on making improvements during the ramp and training experience, and on ways to make our performance management process clearer to help people turn things around before it ever reaches a tough point. If your experience felt different from that, I’d really like to understand more. Please don’t hesitate to reach out through our People Ops team peopleops@smartasset.com, I’d welcome the chance to connect directly and hear your perspective. — Britt Pennington, Senior Director of Sales
