Senior Account Executive, Sales
Pros
Awesome culture, start-up feel (ping-pong, happy hours etc) but extremely sharp/polished organization and team. Disruptive product. I was one of the earlier reps hired with zero SaaS experience, but was fortunate enough for the team to take a chance on me and roll the dice! I learned a ton from the dedicated managers and was promoted after about 6-months to Senior AE. Verticals segmented with respective managers (West, Central, East) and scaled from 10 sales reps to over 50 between 2011-2014. Management will get as involved in as much training, feedback, support etc., as needed for each respective rep. Tons of energy, enthusiasm required as you will be selling a complex lead identification platform to residential realtors, but will need to articulate the value in a clear/concise/simplistic manner. High volume calls, about 4 demos a day, transactional but need to have great long-term relationship/account management skills to be successful. Goals are clear cut and attainable. Extremely flexible hours, as long as hitting numbers.
Cons
At the time, there were some "growing pains" (which is expected with most start-ups) but if you were to join now it would be much different. There were issues with customer operations and retention of clients which was difficult for me personally to be confident in implementation to renewal process, however, I have followed up with several employees and customers and have heard that much of this is in the past. Can be difficult to show tangible results because clients need to dedicate at least 6-months to a year before truly seeing ROI (long-term solution) so you will have skeptics who just aren't a good fit. Less common now, but difficulty in generating robust data/analytics in certain territories. Another difficulty for me specifically was base salary and benefits (which was a tad sub-par market value), however, if you are a sales professional this won't matter because you'll be able to make a ton of money if you just put in the work. Some employees (at time) misrepresented and over committed/under-delivered but very important to integrity of company to employ honest, ethical individuals.
