A handful of amazing unit staff

Pros

There are a few awesome staff there who I am so glad I met! Down to earth, honest and kind people who that hospital is lucky to have. If I had a loved one there I know they would be ok and the staff I am referring to would advocate for them no matter what. They know how to be therapeutic, how to engage appropriately and they had my back too. Helpful for patients and new staff because they truly want everyone to succeed. These types of coworkers are unfortunately not very common in this field and Smokey Point and the patients are lucky to have them! You’ll know who they are, they’re the ones who are smiling! Miss you guys!

Cons

Some staff “poke the bear” and need to learn therapeutic communication. Many escalations wouldn’t hav happened if they spent a few minutes listening to the patient instead of talking at them. They need a better orientation. I’ve worked in many hospitals and this was by far the most unsafe when it comes to staff training and what the patients have access to on the units. If a Patient decides to hop over the nurses desk and grab something sharp to attack staff with, there’s nothing stopping them. There’s also nowhere for staff to go to be safe from an attack like that. It happens!
