Pros

Coworkers who try to support one another

Cons

Extreme lack of training, they give you and iPad with videos and expect you to be able to jump into your position knowing exactly what to do Anytime advice or support was asked for, you get told "you'll figure it out just read what your iPad says to do" Trainer did not attempt to communicate with me and ignored me after I reached out with questions and concerns The job is not as advertised and they blatantly tell you they're desperate for employees Coworkers and management communicated dissatisfaction with the job but that you "get used to it"

We’re sorry to hear that the training and communication did not meet expectations. Our goal is to provide a structured onboarding experience with both foundational learning and hands-on support, and we recognize from your feedback that this did not come through in your case. Pros

The reason I work in healthcare is because I am motivated by doing good for others and the community, and Soar affords me the chance to do this every day. I am grateful for the chance to connect with the children in our care, and to set them up for a bright future by providing excellent therapy to them. Soar offers ethical, evidence-based, trauma-informed therapy to children in a safe and welcoming environment. As an employee, I can always expect support, guidance, and a good working environment at Soar. The clinical setting offers the chance to connect with coworkers and collaborate on the job every day. Most of all, I love seeing the kids make progress, have fun, and feel safe to be themselves with us. I am compensated reasonably for my work, I have been promoted internally and added to my hourly rate by becoming registered as an RBT and working in two languages. I can pay my bills comfortably.

Cons

While this is a great place to work, it is demanding. It takes emotional endurance to work through hard situations with steady compassion and energy on a daily basis. That said, it is well worth it, and for the right person, it affords tremendous personal growth in these areas. One area where I have had positive and negative experiences is in scheduling and hours, which is one of this organization's biggest challenges. I am guaranteed thirty hours of work per week as full time staff, but it is possible to fall short of this number and need to advocate for more work. In the beginning of employment here, the hours are relatively low, but hiring bonuses and other incentives can compensate until one's schedule fills up after a few weeks. Soar tries hard to keep schedules consistent but some flexibility is required on the part of staff (though your daily start and end time availability will always be respected). These issues have never swayed me from staying on at Soar.
