Hard Pass on SSA Careers

Pros

Benefits and retirement plan are good.

Cons

Management micromanage. They don't listen to the employees. They manage cases the same way they have since the 90s, and they blame employees for the backlog. There are ways to get the backlog down, but the agency doesn't have the capacity to manage or embrace change. Real change. Not recycled old ways of doing things. They really need someone who specializes in change management. DEIA is not a value in OHO. There is a reason SSA reason SSA ranks 16th out of 17 federal agencies in employee satisfaction.

Pros

Federal job - pension, holidays, health insurance.

Cons

Almost everything! The workload is horrendous. The training department is corrupt. If employees knew their rights and had a lawyer on hand, this place would be sued nonstop. Where do I even begin? Sexual harassment, hostility toward LGBTQ community, reprisal, racism, nepotism, favoritism, and massive abuse of resources. They are still functioning like it’s the 1980s. Good ol boy networks and plenty of women enabling it to continue on this way. People with no prior experience and no professionalism desperate to hold on to their power (GS). Promotion based on who you know, not what you know. A horribly corrupt place that is representative of everything wrong in the government. If you are young, don’t step foot in there. It will be the worst decision you ever make and you’ll get dependent on the “security” of the pay and leave. If you happen to take this job, just get your GS and IMMEDIATELY start looking for other federal jobs. There is so much more out there and they don’t want you to know. Do your research because everyone says the same things. Would not recommend.
