Pros

Federal benefits. Management is okay, but much of what’s wrong is out of the district management’s control.

Cons

SSA has fallen to one of the worst places to work in the federal government. There’s a serious morale problem. Employees have left in droves in the last 12 months for both private sector and other agencies. SSA hasn’t kept up with the work/life balance. The job is the most stressful I’ve ever had. Pay rates are horrible for the work you are asked to do. Claimants treat you like crap. So do many of your coworkers.

Pros

Job security, pay and benefits

Cons

SSA is one of the worst federal agencies to work for. Management is super toxic, agency is always understaffed, not looking to expand telework and little to no advancement opportunities.

Pros

Serving the public, learning complex and intense computer systems, and pay is good.

Cons

Extreme toxic working environment. Incompetent hostile management practices. Out-of-control office politics enabled by management. OCD level-micro-managing. Employee favoritism. Negative zero morale in the workplace. Office Moles constantly snitch on other’s mistakes. These moles are obvious and cancer that mistreats and badly speaks to the public unprofessionally! These moles never get written up even though the entire staff clearly witness their unacceptable and unprofessional behavior while conducting themselves badly and inappropriately. Management severely lacks interpersonal communication skills, personality, kindness, understanding, support, helpfulness, and overall ability to be decent human beings to the staff without any hidden agendas. For some insane and destructive reason, this is the culture that this office cultivates for the employees to, unfortunately, deal with daily. Work assignments are grossly delegated, and employees are extremely overwhelmed. This severe issue is of no concern whatsoever to management! The training is severely flawed and needs an overhaul. Training should consist of training modules broken down step by step and then the trainee should be sent up front to practice and process what they have learned up to that point in their training module to efficiently understand and get the training down successfully before the next module is learned and so forth. If you have any type of mental health issues, such as stress-related issues, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, PTSD, then you better make the right decision to steer clear from this agency. This agency hires referrals from agencies that help place, disabled people, back into the workforce. These referrals are obviously experiencing some level of mental health issues and they are not prepared or informed properly of what they will be experiencing in terms of overly assigned work and extreme stress, in general, due to the corrupt management in place. The management has no regard for how employees perceive them negatively and mean-spirited this is detrimental to the agency and the overall morale in the workplace. Staff loathes management including the moles that fool management with their false allegiance to simply be treated with the favoritism that they get. This dysfunctional management attitude demonstrates an elevated level of incompetent and corrupt management behavior! Staff is not appreciated nor valued. Employees are treated as nothing less than a number! The management team falls short of having effective interpersonal communication skills. This is a flaming red flag for employees' morale, productiveness, success, and peace of mind on the job. Employees do not learn to respect, trust, or believe in management when management does not stay on the same page with the management team.
