Pros

Decent pay, great retirement benefits, access to information that will help once you are retirement age and dealing with social security benefits, Medicare, etc. Able to work with people who are in need and get them benefits and assistance at numerous points in life (death, birth of child, permanently disabled, low income and disabled, etc).

Cons

Terrible training, you are trained and then immediately thrown into work were it take months to be able to navigate the many systems you use and YEARS to be comfortable at your job. Old systems that lag, go offline, and need to be replaced by something much more efficient. While there are people who are in need and pleasant to deal with, your day will be mostly being berated and called everything but your job title and that can wear on your morale (for some folks, some may be fine with it). There is a never ending workload that never gets easier, have to have a good work life balance because SSA will not help you create one. It’s hectic and chaotic everyday.

Pros

Greate co-workers Processing documents if you have time is easy

Cons

CSR position is basically being part of a call center No time in between calls to go to the restroom We are forced to put claimants on mute in order to take a sip of water or go to the restroom Majority of calls are people who are already pissed at the administration Management, SSA as a whole does not care about us We can't call out because of how understaffed the unit is and will be reprimanded for calling out All management cares about is themselves and their quotas
