If you care, you lose

Pros

PTO accrual, other fed benefits

Cons

Office policies vary dramatically from location to location, with many establishing their own policies to the point they evade the National program manual. Office level management has too much power to do what they want and upper regional/area management isn’t involved. If office management directs something, the employees follow it, and it turns out to be wrong; the employees end up getting in trouble.

The Worst.

Pros

SSA has great flexibility with regards to their leave policy.

Cons

Where do I start? Everything. If you’re not a yes person look elsewhere. If you think the status quote is acceptable look elsewhere. If you don’t know someone higher up look elsewhere. You get the picture. There’s a reason why contractors and federal employees of all other agencies laugh at the mention of this agency.

Horrible Position

Pros

Benefits, Health Insurance, Days off

Cons

This position is an accounting, coding, and a high level position. There is lots of math, overpayments, rates, underpayments, coding, notices, and mentors who dont help you along the way. It is a low paying position for your heavy work load. What you are expected to learn is almost impossible, and the mentors have a high and might attitude toward helping to succeed. You will have 9 months of training, then more ramp up time to see if you can get 8 cases a day at 80 % . If you dont cut it, they will cut u. The people that grade your cases are not forgiving, and most dont care to explain any reasoning. Most of the time you run are like a chicken with your head cut off. Alot of cases are things you will never go over, or never hear of, cant find polices on. The 9 month training consisted of several different trainers, only a few good ones, who actually explained in a way you can understand. They totally set you up for failure. Once covid hit, and everyone went home, got totally worse, no help now. Just all downhill. I would never recommend a government job to anyone . I wish I had never left my last job, it was a huge mistake. The government makes you work much, much harder for much less pay, period.
