Pros

The salary and benefits were fantastic.

Cons

The training was weak and the workload was disorganized. Coworkers were negative, stressed to the point it affected their health, and not helpful to new employees. Employees who worked for SSA for a number of years were still unable to answer basic questions and many had questionable moral codes. The policies were confusing.

Pros

Federal Benefits Meet New People Develop New Skills Work with varied populations Serve varied populations

Cons

Poor leadership and poor culture. Not focused on public service but themselves and looking good to others. A lot of internal problems like bullying and discrimination, discrimination against it's own employees who have disabilities, uncouth and deceitful management who deflect when confronted with evidence, and supervisors who don’t care about the public. Terrible outlook on public service and nasty comments about the public to employees. Too much pressure to achieve public service indicators. Not enough employees to handle claims and interviews. Truly unmanageable workloads and unnecessary insurmountable pressure to complete special sidelined projects without giving employees the time to complete the projects. Intimidation, and trumped memos and write-up's. Extremely discriminate conduct in regarding awards systems and a complete disregard for credibility. Lastly, a hostile work environment that targets educated people - those educated are made to feel useless and are targeted with unnecessary comments and tactics. Threats to another person's physical being. Poor training and mentorship efforts. No value in social capital what so ever.

Pros

Holidays off and work schedule flexibility

Cons

Worse environment to work in along with adults over 50 behaving as kids. Gossip, bullying and extreme micromanagement from supervisors. Nepotism and you have to be angry and hostile to fit in on a specific level for praises and awards even if you’re not competent at your job. If you’re a good honest person it’s not the place for you.
