Pros

Fair amount of sick and vacation leave annually

Cons

Rewards based on relationships with management, not merit. Management is completely incompetent with over-inflated egos stemming from the prestige of working at the least prestigious government agency in the country. Unreasonable amount of control freaks who request that you obtain permission for the most minimal requests. Co-workers joked that they may need to ask is it okay to use the bathroom. The experience gained here is not marketable. Unless you want to work with SSA your entire life, other employees will frown at your lack of experience. If you are an attorney, definitely steer clear of SSA. SSA claims that you will write legal "documents" but in reality, a monkey could be trained to prepare an SSA brief.

Pros

Use to be job security Use to be Telework days Ok medical benefits After you close your laptop you can leave your work at work

Cons

Micromanaging at 1,000 % Emails ALL DAY about multiple changing priorities and they all are “Top priorities”. Unrealistic expectations which causes claims to grow uncontrollably because you can not work enough cases then the amount that come in daily. Including weekends and days you are off. 30min lunches ? You can barely make it out of the garage in that timeframe. Full of older employees that do the bare minimum, gossip and watch your every move. Cubical atmosphere with people talking and walking around all day. Some people act like they are at home with how loud they can be on private phone calls or even when talking with others. Prehistoric notions that you need to do other lazy people’s work while your cases grow. You have to do more than your job duties with no appreciation and slice yourself thin for the possibility to have a promotion and you must be liked by the ring leaders. Not enough, or fast enough assistance available when needed to process cases. Different location, components and positions communicate poorly causing confusion and more work. Long initial training Not enough quality continuous training after the initial training. Can you tell I hate it ? Try it at your risk Quality is not seen as valuable, as long as you can complete as many cases as possible even if they are incorrect causing possible disruption to the American public

Pros

None. Everything is in chaos.

Cons

Anyone who is posting favorable reviews at this time is a liar or a troll. People are being fired, laid off, RIFd or whatever you want to call it and no one knows what's coming next. Say good bye to accurate or timely processing of your claims.
