Pros

Benefits are good and you can't take work home, but those do not even come close to offsetting the negatives.

Cons

Management is completely inept and out of touch with employees. Work hard and you'll be rewarded with a pat on the back every now and then but nothing else. Middling employees who have been there for years and continuously mess up work will get paid twice what you do. Work is stressful and depressing. Avoid at all costs.

Pros

The benefits package, the employer matching through the Thrift Savings Plan and the work-life-balance resources that are available to employees such as the on site fitness center and the counselors through the Employee Assistance Program. The salaries for some of the positions are equal to the level of responsibility for the actual work that is required of the job.

Cons

The pay grade and salary for some positions does not fully compensate for the level of work that the employee is responsible for and expected to handle on a daily basis...particularly for Service Representatives and Claims Representatives in the field offices and the Tele-service Representatives who answer the 800 number calls. There is a HUGE amount of nepotism, favoritism and employee discrimination in particular, that has occurred due to these practices within the past four years. So much so that the agency was investigated by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) because of the extremely high amount of employee discrimination cases filed against them. There is an article about the investigation that made it's way to the Baltimore Sun May 15, 2014. You can research it and read it for yourself.
