Pros

pay is okay for government work work-life balance is nice

Cons

I work as a hearings and appeals analyst in Maryland. This job is killing my will to live some days. The work is very boring and mundane. This job is great entry-level work, but it by no means is law-related. It is a government job so the pay is okay, but it certainly is not meant for the long-term. I would get in, get some experience and then get out as soon as possible.

Potential but

Pros

Good benefits (insurance, vacation, etc); flexible work schedule; younger employees use this as a "gap filler" place to work until something better comes along

Cons

Little opportunity for advancement outside HQ; opportunities for details & temporary assignments often only told to "favorite" employees and not everyone; preference to hire externally rather than promote from within; salary doesn't always match the area where you live compared to private sector; slow to innovate - stuck in that govt rut
