Pros

Good pay and benefits Family friendly Great/flexible hours Ability to truly help people Constantly busy You might make lasting friendships with your coworkers

Cons

Must relocate to be promoted Work can be boring (a lot of the tasks feel like "data entry") Computer programs don't work properly Complexity of the law makes it nearly impossible to correctly figure benefits in all cases High Stress No maternity leave (must use sick/vacation days) It can be hard to get help if you don't know how to adjudicate a certain type of case

Pros

If you are determined and hard working you can make a career out of working for SSA. After working for three to 5 years, you can earn a decent salary depending on the position you're in.

Cons

The internal promotion system is out of wack. I had to apply externally to get a higher paying position within the agency. There are heavy workloads, and you're expected to get work done without being given the time to do it.

Pros

-Job Stability -Constant opportunity to learn...never a dull day -Opportunity to help people daily -Flexible hours -Family friendly

Cons

-Too much emphasis on stats -Management spends too much time in meetings -Frequent change in managers at my location -Some apparent nepotism/favoritism (I will admit it helped me but hurt others) -Unequal distribution of work/responsibilities
