Not a great place to work

Pros

Can honestly say that there are some great people at SSA - hard workers, intelligent and overall good human beings. The salary is pretty decent as well as most of the benefits.

Cons

The workload is unrealistic. As employees leave, the workload is given to the employees that remain and you sometimes have 2 to 3 times as much work. Also the Executive Management (AC/DC level) act as if they are royalty and all others are peasants. They are very, very unreachable and detached. Because of this, higher graded employees treat lower graded employees as if they are less than human and they don't matter at all. Depending on the area, the culture is very toxic. There is a ton of competition for promotions and only the "favored" few will ever have a chance of being promoted.

Pros

There are a lot of smart and capable employees working at SSA.

Cons

The agency is severely underfunded, making it difficult to address the aging IT system and staffing needs.
