Pros

Solid pay and benefits, especially for those of us hired out of college. Strong camaraderie among your peers.

Cons

If you're serious about being a long-term salesman, then you'll be fine. Unfortunately, if you're passionate about solar, you may want to look elsewhere. This is a sales job, plain and simple. They tell you in the interview that you can be promoted within a couple months. This is a blatant lie. I worked with the #1 salesperson in the U.S. and it was almost a year before she was promoted. And only because she threatened to leave. Again let me preface, this is a retail job. Some of my coworkers, who were veteran salespeople, were quickly run down by this job. The turnover is unusually high, even for sales, and even if you're successful and passionate about the industry, you'll find that will not be the case for long. Do not be fooled, this company is a business. They are not trying to save the world, they are trying to build a new energy monopoly. This is basically another energy company, trying to get a stranglehold on the industry. If you're not alright with this, do not take this job. I've been here 8 months and have been very successful, but am desperate to leave. Management is hired based on personal numbers, which would seem to make sense, however high numbers don't seem to translate to management skills. You are completely alone at this job and therefore responsible with motivating yourself. If you do not want to be a life-long salesman, DO NOT work here. I worked in law enforcement before this, dealing with criminals and drug-addicts on a daily basis and was STILL less stressed and better treated than I am with SolarCity.

Pros

The product is good and really does help the majority of customers save money and reduce polution. The office is in town square which is nice.

Cons

Its a telemarketing job. You will spend 8 hours a day trying to convince people to sign a 20 year contract over the phone. You get paid at installation and 1/2 of your sales will cancel on you through no fault of your own due to roofs in poor condition or electrical problems with the home. Inside sales has over 100% annual attrition rate, you are not special if you get talked into working here you will be looking for a new job in six months. I quit because the salary figures I was told to expect were bs, there might be 5 people at most making more than 50k in the vegas office of 100s and NO ONE makes anything close to six figures. There is no opportunity for advancement. Last month they demoted 20% of their managers on a whim and since I have worked here 1/2 of the cubicles have gone from being occupied to empty, its a very chilling daily reminder of the sinking ship that is solarcity.
