Pros

Great entry level position for a college graduates or for someone looking to begin their career with a company that has great vision to change how electricity is produced, to lower utility costs paying for power. There is a great benefit for the use of solar panels for homeowners and businesses; long term savings with a great warranty and maintenance program. If you enjoy building relationship and helping others, solarcity offers this opportunity. With Elon Musk innovations with new technology the future looks bright.

Cons

Solarcity is a very fast paced environment with constant change. Communication is poor throughout the organization and has tremendous operational issues supporting its sales team who are responsible for closing sales and overseeing the solar project to get installed. There are many steps in the process that requires constant monitoring of the necessary action steps to get a design approved, resident inspected, permits approved, and financing. There are many projects that are stalled and set idle for long periods that affect the relationship and commitment communicated to customers. This causes cancellations and therefore affects commission payouts for consultants. The partnership relationship with Home Depot and Best Buy is heavily relied upon to generate new sales opportunities; customers have become aggravated by solar city's approach in these stores to set appointments. Very poor training is conducted by inexperience trainers with limited resources to properly equip associates to be professional and effective to achieve desired results. Management is enforced through intimidation and reckless abusive addressing project issues and sales performance. There is no code of confidence and the culture lacks building a trusting environment and loyalty. I am disappointed with how people are treated and the level of respect displayed towards the people that work hard to make a difference for homeowners. Consultants however are only valued for their last month performance. It doesn't matter if one has a long history with solarcity. Your career is in jeopardy if your sales have be challenged for a 60 period. Solarcity is truly an organization riddled with low morale, high employee turnover, customer cancellations, poor leadership and and weak strategic plan to go to market.

Pros

The workers all have a common goal to help the environment. You can work a lot of overtime if you want. I started in 2014 as a outbound lead generator, transferring leads to consultants. I was quickly promoted in March of 2015 to a consultant and by end of 2016 was a senior consultant. I left with a lot of experience and great friends.

Cons

2015 was amazing and I thought I would have a career with SolarCity forever. Every month we were hiring 10-20 people, we got so large we needed a shuttle system. Month after month things continued to improve and get better. 2016 (disaster begins) I never thought it would happen but it did. We started downsizing to improve COA. I watched more than half the sales floor be walked out by the end of the year. Shuttle system disappeared. We had changes that made our jobs less worth it. We got a terrible phone system, less referral money for our customers, more rules, micromanaging, free snacks turned to vending machines, they stripped job titles, they restructured our commission so everyone had the same commission tiers wether you were on your first day of tenth year, whether you are terrible at sales or amazing. A new higher up came at the end of 2016 with the Tesla Merger named Toby. He took away all control from managers, directors, VPs, ect... He pushed out everyone who poured their blood, sweat, and tears into SolarCity. I left early 2017 after hearing enough false promises. I am so glad I had the opportunity and so sad it turned out the way it did. I just couldn't bear seeing the continuous spiral of doom any longer.
