In a word my experience with SolarCity has been conflicting.

Pros

Helping change the way people think about powering their homes. It's amazing to work for a green company. All the people I have worked with have been great people. The flexibility with my schedule has also been good - it's nice to know that if the weather is bad I have the option to work from home.

Cons

The pay is horrandous. At least my pay is. I did a search on glassdoor to see what people in the same position get paid and I was far lower than everyone else. I make such little money that I can't afford a place to live (I'm basically homeless), I'm also on food stamps and I can't afford the health insurance provided by SolarCity. I've been with the company for 2 years, one year as a temp and one year as a full time employee and I still have not received my shares of stock. I've inquired with both the stock admin and my HR rep and neither knew anything. Having those shares of stock would really help because I'm struggling financially right now.

Pros

Not micro managed Helping the environment

Cons

Depending on your area and competitors, it is very tough to make any money. Base is 30k. Commissions which they promise can easily be over a thousand every month is false because they dont know how receptive an area is to solar. Also once you do close a sale there are tons of factors that can happen which will then charge you back. If you like standing around in retail locations for 8 hours trying hound people to set up a consultation then this job is for you. There is also a ton of disconnct between managers and all they care is leads instead of closed sales which is how you make your money.

Pros

With SolarCity, you truly feel like you're part of a company that's making a difference in the world. It's also a company that is very invested in your personal growth and seeks to give you more responsibility as soon as you are ready to take it on. People on the sales team are positive, highly motivated, and inspirational; competition is friendly and helpful. You, as an individual, are celebrated every single step of the way - literally on a daily basis.

Cons

Work-life balance is difficult, especially in an entry-level sales position. I get the feeling that there is flexibility, but the best days to work are on the weekend. This means time away from friends and loved ones who are on a traditional 9-5 M-F schedule; however, after promotion, you are afforded autonomy in scheduling appointments and managing your own time.
