Pros

SolarWinds is a cool place to work at first. From the snacks, lunches, and sales competitions it is easy to not hate going into work. The benefits are ok, but could be better. There is a decent amount of PTO that you get your first year as well.

Cons

Even though your quota is set quarterly, the management treats each month like it is end of quarter. The management also encourages high pressure sales tactics that not only burn your customers out, but take a toll on the reps as well. Thanks to their high pressure sales culture you will run into a lot of customers and account that despise talking with you. The company tends to micromanage your sales opportunities and go over the top to customers. This shows that they don't trust their sales reps regardless of how much experience you may have. Recently a large number of upper management was either fired, or left the company. This has lead to a lot of internal changes that aren't for the best. The real kicker is the head of the sales organization has never actually done sales. He was in the marketing department.

Pros

50+ products that actually work. People know exactly who SW is as a market leader. While they do not typically innovate or champion the leading edge of IT Monitoring software, they have deep enough pockets to acquire companies that do to bring them into the SW fold. They have really smart sales engineers that know exactly how to use the products to the best of their design and then some.

Cons

Old school leadership mentality of brute force sales tactics. Very little strategy and poor hiring practices. Place is being run by the sales people and HR/Legal/Leadership are terrified to replace terrible people with better people. This in part is because really good people are not looking to join the SW team. They can fire because they dont have people to replace reps. Sales roles are under paid relative to other similar companies in the space. The training is poorly run and focuses on "discounting" as the primary sales tactic to close deals. Its no wonder reps focus on the sales discounting as a closing tactic as opposed to meeting the customer NEEDS first and then discussing the value the products bring to the customers IT Monitoring needs.

Pros

Good benefits package. Opportunities to travel and have cushy dinners on the company's dime. I've made great connections with my co-workers and met some vibrant like-minded people.

Cons

The most ridiculous high-pressure sales "management" style I've ever experienced. Management will provide little training and support, then push you to sell deals that will churn. Overall this job is not worth the stress with a bad work/life balance. Don't expect to earn your OTE and even when your at or above quota your manager will expect you to sell more.
