Pros

Great location in Austin. Free lunches on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Cons

Salespeople leaving the office before 6pm is frowned upon. Taking a day off is often questioned. If you hear somebody say SolarWinds is like Dell used to be, they're probably referring to the Dell Sweatshop days. Salespeople are considered disposable and not valued much by SolarWinds.

Pros

There are so many perks to working at SolarWinds! I have been an employee in the Finance area for over 5 years and can say I have enjoyed the work, the atmosphere, and the company culture. They truly are focused on promoting from within which I can attest to from my own personal experience. The work is challenging and the Company is ever changing with new acquisitions etc. I can say I have never been bored here and have always felt that they care about my career and about growing me as an individual. If you enjoy a challenge and want to work hard (and play hard of course) this is the place for you. On the forefront some of the perks include semi-annual bonus plans, extensive vacation days, great 401k matching, catered lunches twice a week, snack bins and free coffee and sodas. Other perks include company outings, happy hours, and of course a flexible schedule as needed once you have proven yourself to management. The Finance Group truly values their employees and if you work hard for them they will "go to bat for you". The quarterly Company meetings are a definite plus. They at a high level explain what is going on in the business and what our focus should be in the next several months. It gets everyone motivated to work as an organization to make it happen.

Cons

Sometimes we move and change so quickly it is hard to know precisely how this will impact each department. Quick communication about plans for acquired companies etc would be beneficial. This could be communicated down from Senior Management etc on a smaller scale so that we truly know how our day to day is going to be impacted.

Pros

Free food twice a week. Free drinks and snacks. Free internet. Gym on site. Nice building. Some of the people there are really great. Some.

Cons

This place is big on drinking the kool-aid. Being successful at SW is about being a follower and doing what you are told. If you like to think outside the box this is not the place for you. If you like challenging yourself and giving 110%, this is not the place for you. This is the place for people who are OK with subpar work and subpar ideas. This place is the "this is how we have always done it" of businesses. Management is absolutely terrible. No guidance, no support, no knowledge of how other parts of the business work, no willingness or drive to improve or be more efficient. This is a place people go to get a check. They all are EXCELLENT at pretending like that's why they aren't really there, they sit up straight when the CEO walks by and stay late on days when they know he'll be walking around to see who is still in the office. It's all a fake show to keep him happy. You will be micromanaged to death. They watch when you come and go and hound you about being in the office 8 hours even though there is only maybe 1 or 2 hours worth of work to do. When you ask for more work so you don't want to jump off the building out of boredom, there is nothing to give you to do. I watched so many brilliant, talented, passionate people come and go at Solarwinds. It made me realize that I didn't want to be one of the ones who settled for mediocre and stayed.
