Pros

SMT and senior managers are very approachable there is a two way dialog. The people make the company what it is today, and the business is flexible if you are delivering in your role the business does recognise and reward. The company has invested in my personal development by sponsoring me to complete a Diploma qualification in my field.

Cons

We've out grown our current office so space is tight. Teams are lean which means you have to support your colleagues (and they support you) if you aren't up for team work and getting stuck in you will struggle.

Pros

Staff are really friendly and work well together, and you can learn a lot from your peers here. There are plenty of people on the floor with big ideas.

Cons

Crap moral due to Poor senior management. They are sleep walking the company off a cliff. The only thing they can decide on is the company should do double digit growth but there is not acommitted direction in to how. There is a bullet out there with the company name on it and I fear the gun is being loaded as I type

Thank you for posting a review and for your feedback. We are always trying to do more to ensure our associates feel appreciated and are kept updated on the company mission. Our open-door policy means if you do want to reach out to your line manager or other members of the SMT, they would be happy to discuss our FY20 mission with you. Thanks again for taking the time to share your feedback.

Pros

cap hpi is likely a good company for non technical, non creative personnel (see Cons). They provide flexible working, great work events (Xmas etc.) and a comfortable work environment. They are industry leaders, with a solid financial outlook and business strategy.

Cons

This is specifically aimed at developers considering cap hpi as an employer. TL;DR - Great developers would be best to avoid. You'll become dulled and likely be unhappy. Professionally dispassionate types will be fine. cap hpi take a troubling approach to software development. This is rooted in the institutionalised management (typically the old developers of the legacy systems) and career developers who continue to proliferate poor practices and approaches to development. Before considering a position, take note: - Stored procedure architecture is used and abused for almost everything. - CI/CD considered a nice to have rather than fundamental process. - Manual testing preferred over Unit/Integration/Automation. Developers writing tests considered a waste of time and money. - Decades of technical debt left to get out of control. You'll be expected to support it. - "Scrum" teams are not implementing many of the core Scrum principles. Not agile; fragile. - Senior managers have little respect for developer experience or opinion. - One tool to rule them all rather than right tool for right job. Fear, uncertainty and doubt dominate and suffocate creativity.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to comment. As a manager of one of the developer teams myself I agree there are technical challenges at cap hpi. I’m relatively new to cap hpi and I can see that the high rate of growth, combined with a recent merger can make the developer role testing at times, but, I haven’t seen anything different in any other organisation I’ve worked for. We all started out as (and we still are) developers, so we really do understand the issues of our teams. I wish you the best of luck in your current and future roles. Helen
