Pros

It's a job in an office.

Cons

They treat everybody like cattle, which begins with the daily “Cow Bell” for which you must be present at 8am sharp. Everybody gathers in a corner of the office, where they give announcements and encourage everybody to grind for the day. You are supposed to bring a notepad and pen to every meeting, because tHeRe'S aLwAyS sOmEtHinG yOu cAn LeArn. Everybody must take lunch at noon and return by 1pm sharp. There are numerous TVs which transition between leaderboards and the “Grindset Mindset” checklist. It is fully in-office, and WFH days are treated as a “perk” you can earn once you reach a certain milestone (and also have taken away should you slip up). They play radio hits over the speakers 24/7, so unless that’s your thing, you may feel like you’re stuck in a black mirror episode on a never-ending loop. Most of the employees don’t seem to notice how peculiar the culture is, perhaps because they are mostly recent grads or from retail. In any case, it’s not for everybody. Low pay, tedious work, lousy candidates, and bad ethics – you are incentivized to offer candidates as little money as possible so that you can capture more for yourself and the company (yet the company pays pennies in commission until you have 1-2 years of tenure). It should tell you all you need to know that they mandate a 12-month noncompete for the entire metropolitan area for this entry level role. Their business model is exploiting and churning new grads.

Decent Place to Start

Pros

I had a great team lead and department manager. They really cared about my success and helping me do well in my role. I also enjoyed working with my team. Soliant does a good job of hiring people who are truly enthusiastic about the job and who want to do well. The support from my team really helped my experience overall. I think this can be a good starting point for a lot of people who are looking to work in sales and/or HR. Benefits are also OK, nothing to write home about but they’re decent for an entry level job.

Cons

First of all, there is little incentive to go above and beyond. You don’t receive work from home perks until your gold shovel (which can take 2 years) and these get taken away if you don’t get a deal every two weeks. There is also way too much outside of your control that affects your success (I.e. school directors not signing off on new hires, meddling teachers unions, candidates suddenly pretending you don’t exist 30 minutes after confirming an interview). Regardless of how hard you work and how much effort you put in, you’ll get blamed for things you have zero control over. I’ve known more than one good, hardworking employee who was fired when a deal(s) went south. You have very little work life balance as an AE, and will be expected to answer calls/emails when you are on vacation. Other departments have better work life balance, but the company is downsizing so there is limited opportunity to move around. Honestly felt like just another number on a spreadsheet rather than a valued employee. Overall this isn’t a bad place to start but I wouldn’t recommend that most stay long term.
