Toxic Work Environment from Leadership

Pros

Great people under the leadership - smart, hard working & driven. Amazing people to work alongside day in and day out, under management.

Cons

Leadership has no true direct experience of Sonder's operations & bank on being "innovative" aka fundraising and that their "culture"/mission bring more knowledgeable people in to do the work. Leadership cannot get out of their own way.

Couldn’t make ends meet financially, but great people & culture.

Pros

Fantastic coworkers, laid-back atmosphere, overall no micromanaging (depending on dept. I suppose), good long-term vision.

Cons

The atmosphere and people will make you stay—the pay will make you leave. If you’re a non-exempt (hourly) employee, don’t expect the perks that are listed on many of the job descriptions; they don’t apply to you. If you’re comfortable working 2 jobs, you might be able to make it work financially.

Such a bummer that you felt like you had to leave because of pay and benefits. The People team is actively leveling all jobs in the entire company and assessing compensation per market data. We're building a performance and merit review process so we can assess performance and reward merit to ensure we reward the high performing culture that we are. We are also about to roll out our new OneSonder Benefits and Perks including stock options for all, Sonder credits and free night stays for all and a new 401k plan for all US employees that will go live in April. We already contribute to our International employees pension funds. As you can imagine, building these programs from scratch takes time. Sounds like you enjoyed your time at Sonder outside of the pay and benefits which is awesome!

Pros

Company CEO has a clear vision to change the hospitality industry for the better. He thinks long term and is transparent and genuine. There is a strong emphasis on employee development and growth mindset, especially giving feedback both ways. Employees are given significant autonomy but it comes with accountability. Definitely one of the best companies I have worked at.

Cons

Not so much a con but something to watch for - as the company scales it's cities there needs to be good communication built across the cities. Everyone seems to be working hard towards this, so I am positive it will not be an issue
