Pros

The great thing about sony are their benefits. You learn a lot and it looks great on your resume.

Cons

This place has lack of management, motivation, friendliness and professionalism . Most of the people that work here are some what nice like some Japanese. If you don't belong to a group you eat by yourself or find another person just like you. Can't trust anyone because like the media wave you say something and everyone knows your business. Do not add anyone to your social media networks, they tend to get a little envy if you are doing great things for yourself on the side. Even if you do a great job they will find something to say on your job performance when you are being laid-off or getting fired. You can't ask for recommendation letters because it's not allowed. You work a lot of hours not unless you are told to work your 40. The ego's go ballistic in this place. Uncomfortable feeling! But if you work a lot of years you change and become reserved. Very sad place to work.

Pros

Plenty of cool toys and technologies to keep you busy (when the toys work). Most people are friendly and there's an on site Starbucks coffee shop & cafeteria. Employee discounts are decent.

Cons

Profound lack of vision and product direction. Politics are a nightmare, decisions are made in Japan and your input means little or nothing. Management is secretive and opaque. Sony is very out of touch with it's customers and their products are overpriced. Lack of understanding of US culture by Japan decision makers.

Great Company Once... A Long Time Ago!

Pros

Name recognition, work-life balance, some telecommuting, nice facility and parking structure.

Cons

Ever since the reorganization in 2009, employees are treated like commodities instead of human beings. No one asked for our opinion as to where we would be shuffled to, what projects and responsiblities we wanted, and with whom we'd like to work with. Isn't that why we originally interview with a company - so we get the best fit for all? We've gone through layoffs every year since and now another major one has been announced. Most of us (70%) in Finance have been notified - and there's no guarantee that the ones left behind will not go through this again next year... Most likely, they will! The company is plagued with layers of middle management (Mgrs, Sr. Mgrs, Directors, VP's, Sr VP's).... WHY????? Each layer just causes more slow decisions and red tape.
