Pros

SoundHound has a very strong engineering focus baked into the culture. Management understands things like needing to take time to properly design systems, and trade-offs between techincal debt and launch schedules. People are excited to explore new technologies and see if it can solve problems for the team. All of my co-workers in the Boulder office are smart, kind, passionate, and interesting. Lots of social opportunities like lunches, happy hours, event nights, etc. SoundHound offers a weekly lunch stipend so typically people will go out together for lunch on Pearl Street. SoundHound pays for an RTD bus pass for employees, which makes commuting to/from Boulder super easy.

Cons

Short parental leave compared with similar companies. No 401k match. Still private, so stock options aren't worth as much as what you might get at other companies. HR has been understaffed for a long time, tried to hire several heads of HR and none have stayed.

Fantastic Culture

Pros

I've been working at SoundHound for almost 4 months now and have been loving it. Coming from a company that didn't have a great culture, not much room for growth, and a dated product - the change has felt like night and day. SoundHound has an incredible culture that fosters teamwork, general friendliness between teams, and an overall collaborative spirit. The product is incredibly innovative and it's rewarding to work on something that is truly at the forefront of technology. Pay and general medical benefits are also competitive.

Cons

Maternity leave is only one-month long. PTO is tracked pretty intensely and WFH isn't always an option. With unlimited PTO and WFH being a common thing in Silicon Valley, SH's policy feels a bit dated and not competitive.

Pros

The employees are extremely intelligent and great people. The technology behind Hound has great potential to change how people interact with technology.

Cons

The base salary is well below market for a Silicon Valley engineer. High strike prices, no bonuses, no 401k matching, and mediocre benefits.
