Pros

Before the merger with SCBT, First Federal was an excellent place to work. Great benefits, 401K, stock options etc. offered with ample PTO and catastrophic illness time off that accrued if you never called in sick.

Cons

Once the merger occurred, benefits were raided, CAT time reduced and PTO was reduced. Technology went backwards about 30 years to very archaic software programs that could have been written by a 5th grader these days. Rather than using highly advanced technology that was already in place and have SCBT people learn more user friendly and efficient software, they decided to take us decades back. Their training was seriously lacking. They also raided First Federal employees and sent them packing after many years of dedication and service only to be replaced by inexperienced, unprofessional people that hadn't even been in this business for very long.

Pros

Good place to start a career and learn a wide variety of skills. Competitive benefits / PTO. Remote work opportunities. Advanced technology for a regional bank.

Cons

Company culture is nonexistent. Workload was enormous with little to no support from leadership. The “good ole boy” mentality is rewarded, leading to an alarming lack of diversity.

Pros

weekends (except for the tellers at some locations) you are typically off. The branch hours are good. the work isn't too hard and there is help from internal resources if you get stuck. They really treat you like family if you get to the right branch. it all depends on management. It all depends on management. They set the tone. They feed you all the time . every time we are short staff we are getting food ordered for the staff from restaurants. and not cheap places either. lots of mid-grade places like steak houses, lots of pizza and occasionally more expensive places. They are not hard on sales like you won't lose your job for not selling at least for my position, but you just won't be able to participate in incentives if you don't make the goals.

Cons

I have been employed here for 16 years. new girl came in making same exact amount as me and she had no experience. if you come new, they pay, if your loyal they nickel and dime you. I'm complacent here but I know I can get paid way more if I were only brave enough to leave but I'm still happy here. If you're looking to get paid a lot, I would apply with a very high request and negotiate down a bit especially if you plan on staying for years. In a nutshell, loyal employees are not paid enough.
