Pros

A lot of federal money has been spent on a few very well-equipped buildings and many people are overpaid and underworked.

Cons

If you are not alaska native, you will be mistreated and marginalized in overt and subtle ways. Expect to work hard to maintain personal boundaries since personal disclosure is required. Before I accepted the position, I read some reports on this website and thought it must be just a few disgruntled employees. After a short time I realized there should have been more reports of abuse and misconduct on this website to warn people of the seriously dysfunctional environment.

Pros

It is a good feeling to help. There is a lot of good that can be done while working with them.

Cons

In IT, there are abusive managers (verbally and physically). In the rest of the company, the leadership is primarily the same family. The pay is really low.

Cons

Nepotism, very political and tribal Lack of professional development, training, or growth Hypocrisy; stressing relationships but lacks any team building Lack of modern culture or social benefits Management stresses not to discuss salary, large salary inequalities apparent Racism against non-Native and non-Native appearing employees by staff and customers Statistics often Core Concepts, company "cultural" trainings, require divulging of personal, intimate information to management and co-workers Company interested in reputation and outward face rather than focusing on employees HR aggressively defends the company rather than the employee
