Unwelcoming, chaotic mess with no roles for middle management.

Pros

Work life balance is good as there aren’t long hours but there is no working from home, which makes no sense for a company that wants to be and claims to be a great place to work.

Cons

There is high turnover, whether it be people quitting regularly or the company constantly changing the way departments are organized. When management quits, instead of backfilling the position, they change the reporting structure and lay off a bunch of people. There’s a reason why you won’t find people with a long tenure at this place. It’s unfortunate because on the surface, it seems like a good place to work. They also have incessant meetings so much so that you can’t get much work done. More meetings than literally anywhere else I’ve worked. Also, the health insurance is terrible. HSA only with a $5k deductible before insurance starts paying for anything. Multiple people were either directly or passive aggressively rude to me when I started - from execs to directors to co-workers.

Thank you for your feedback. I’d like to address some of the points that you made, starting with something we agree on. We know that many of our employees are not happy with the state of meetings at Sovos; they called it out on our yearly employee engagement survey. When we see there is a problem that negatively affects employees, we try to fix it. You may not have been able to see this before you left, but we have implemented several tactics to address this. Our global leadership development team was tasked with tackling ineffective meetings, members of our executive leadership team held trainings with management globally within each office to provide tools and resources for meeting management, and our technology team developed best practices and strategies they’ve already implemented. On a recent pulse check, more than 80% of Sovosians said they are aware strategies are being implemented to tackle the meeting concern and they are already noticing changes. This is not a problem unique to our organization, but we have been fortunate to have passionate employees and leadership to help address it. Regarding some of your other points: • Turnover rates below industry standard: Turnover at Sovos decreases year-over-year. As a SaaS-based organization, this is unheard of and something we are proud of. This month alone, more than 20 employees celebrated their fifth year of service here at Sovos. • Flexible time off and employee development: We’ve created development programs for all employees and implemented flexible time off to help meet employee needs. • Collaborative work environments: Sovos has 14 offices in 11 countries. We emphasize onsite work as part of our Be Collaborative core value. • A Total Rewards program, including competitive health insurance: Our Total Rewards program offers employees an array of benefits, including an HSA. The HSA is a company-matched savings tool (not an insurance plan) to help off-set the cost of the deductible (which is $2,000 for an individual). We invest in things like seeding employee HSA accounts and dollar-for-dollar matching, which, if used properly, can cover the full cost of the health insurance deductible. I wish you had asked more questions about our insurance plan while you were here; it doesn’t sound like you completely understood it. Our HR reps are knowledgeable about the ins and outs of these tools and are available to help employees maximize their benefits. You also mention organizational change. You’re right. We do change – right alongside the dynamic market we lead. That’s why one of our core value is Be Adaptable. Change sometimes means adjusting strategizes and realigning departments to meet the needs of our employees and our customers. We have an audacious goal to Solve Tax for Good, and we can’t meet the promise without adapting to change. I’m sorry and surprised to hear you felt people were rude when you started. The most consistent piece of feedback we see on this Glassdoor page (and elsewhere) is how intelligent, friendly and goal-oriented the people who work here are. Our First 48 onboarding program recently earned a Global Best Practice award for its success in welcoming new hires and connecting them to company leaders. Our company, like any company, isn’t for everyone. But the people who thrive here, who are motivated to make an impact, are the best part of Sovos. Pros

None, I don't know what I am still doing here...

Cons

The culture seems to only be conducive to a certain mainstream. Any one who is different is not given opportunities and let go eventually.

Normally I appreciate all feedback but the nature of this review is not fair or constructive. Sovos fosters a challenging environment, where hard-working, career-minded, ambitious and talented people can grow. We understand and acknowledge that is not for everyone. To be sure, though, discrimination is not tolerated at Sovos, has no place in our culture, and it is in direct conflict with our core values. We never have and we never will prevent people from advancing their careers or terminate them because they are different. Ever. Full stop. We encourage inclusiveness and diversity in our workforce and our workplace, and we have various reporting paths, including anonymous, for employees to report any instance not in alignment with our values or culture or the law. Sovos and its entire leadership team are deeply committed to providing a great working environment for our employees, including equal opportunity, so employees can advance their careers, thus improving their way of life.

Pros

Working for Sovos comes with some perks. You can show up and leave at any time of the day, wearing shorts and flip flops, and do little to no work while still collecting a pay check. Another option is not showing up for work at all and facing no repercussions. It is a low stress environment where deadlines mean nothing and people are not held accountable for their actions. In all honesty, people are rewarded for these qualities.

Cons

Low pay, poor departmental structure, ineffective hierarchy, unprofessional, and a complete lack of accountability are just a few. During the interview process, the position I applied for and received was described to me in a completely different manner than what I was actually expected to do once I was hired. I was received little to no effective training. Colleagues frequently did not show up for work, so asking questions was near impossible. When I did ask questions I was essentially ignored and told to figure it out on my own. There is a complete lack of communication between team members because people are unable to engage in any type of professional conversation. One person will tell you that your work looks great and then tell everyone else you are behind the learning curve. The turnover rate is so high that projects and assignments are constantly being handed off so there is no continuity. Therefore important changes and deadlines are frequently missed.

We appreciate your feedback, and we’d very much would like to discuss further with you one-on-one. It sounds like you are having a disappointing experience here at Sovos, and one that is not typical for our company. We hope we can help you with that. We make it a point to ensure every member of our team embodies our company core values of: Be Professional, Be Accountable, Be Proactive, Be Collaborative, and Be Adaptable. In terms of our environment, we are a modern software company and we strive to provide our employees with as much work / life balance as possible by focusing on results first. This may include flexible office hours, and less strict dress coding attire. Though, we certainly expect professionalism. Most people appreciate the flexibility as it allows them to focus on their work and driving results, but your experience doesn’t seem to match your expectations. We have an exciting opportunity at Sovos, and we want every employee to feel supported and challenged as we work to lead this market. You don’t seem to feel that way. And, we’d encourage you to speak with your manager, another leader or anyone on the HR team. If you have ideas or suggestions you would like to share on ways we can improve, we’d love to hear them.
