Pros

Very smart dedicated people in Boston and MN. The newer hirers (think less than 4 years) really know technology and how to revamp the dinosaurs software we are pushing. Our architects, unfortunately, haven't evolved with the times and require bright graduates to learn antiquated software and shoe-horn solutions to our clients demands.

Cons

It's very unfortunate that we lack strong technical presence. We lose our brightest and best because we settle for for what ever gets us over the finishing line. Again, without bashing the architects, they're in over their heads. What they built years ago doesn't scale. They refuse to listen to the younger developers who have brilliant ideas. They create archaic tools they only understand and call it proprietary. It's not. They could never sell it nor could they leave it as a legacy system. It is simply job security.

Pros

remote work, that’s it nothing else

Cons

You will do more work for no more money. This is their standard operating procedure. When someone quits or gets fired, that's just considered savings. They almost never backfill the role, so you just get to add that workload to your own. It's exhausting and feels incredibly disrespectful. · Leadership is completely checked out. Honestly, who's running this place? There's zero direction, zero vision. It feels like everyone is just waiting around for the company to be acquired. I have no idea what the strategy is, and I don't think they do either. There's no clarity, no momentum, and definitely no trust left. · Your career will stall here. Promotions junt title changes to avoid giving real raises. There's no training, no real opportunity to learn. You're on your own. The "onboarding" is basically just getting login info and then being thrown into the deep end because everyone is too burned out to train you.

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback after more than five years with Sovos. I am glad remote work flexibility was valuable during your time here. I want to address a few points directly. Our strategic direction is clear and we communicate it regularly through our All Connects meetings and other forums: our vision is to transform tax and compliance into a force for growth and a core strategy to do is our evolution from point solutions to platform. We are executing against that vision, taking market share and growing in the areas that matter. We do backfill roles. In the vast majority of cases, positions are replaced when employees move on. While we may occasionally pause to reassess structure or scope, adding permanent workload without a plan to replace talent is not how we operate. When teams feel stretched, that is something I take seriously. Regarding onboarding, we provide a full-day orientation session along with pre-hire communication and follow-ups alongside functional trainings, though I recognize that the experience can vary depending on team and manager, and that is something we continue to work on. I am sorry you felt your career stalled during your time here. The reality is that Sovos is not for everyone. We find that people who are adaptable, results-driven, and collaborative in fast-paced environments succeed best here. We are making significant investments across the business, including in our Sales, Product, and Service Delivery teams, as well as AI tools to help our people feel more productive and empowered in their roles. Thank you for the contributions you made during your tenure, and I genuinely wish you well in what is next. - Colleen Schlagel, Chief Talent Officer

Pros

Great co-workers (NOT upper management). Everyone works hard and works together to do what they can with awful products.

Cons

Broken and virtually unusable products. Priorities for product development are completely backwards. It is apparent upper management would rather trap misinformed new customers with shiny new (non-functioning) features than provide stability to keep their current ones. Compensation is an absolute joke. Be prepared to be ABSURDLY underpaid while you suffer through constant reorganizations and comically high turnover, which management does not care about unless they can find even cheaper labor. They will then claim they fixed the staffing issue, in which more people will finally leave. Certain departments prey on desperate college graduates, and then wonder why turnover is hilariously high

This is hard to read, but thank you for sharing your thoughts. Let’s start with the fact you had great co-workers. Sovos has the best people, and I am proud to serve our customers alongside every professional who works here. IDC recently recognized the work of this team by naming Sovos a leader in three reports, commending our solutions as “a strong choice for companies of any size looking for cloud tax software and services to meet compliance and regulatory demands anywhere they do business.” We have more than 2,300 employees in 14 countries making that happen. Keeping our promise to customers is our No. 1 priority, and investing in this team is key to that effort. Amid a talent reshuffle affecting many companies, Sovos is growing, with hundreds of new hires in the past year. Alongside team members who have been here for five years, 10 years, 15 years and longer, our newest talent is helping to build a best-in-class customer success model, ambitious R&D roadmaps to address accelerating global compliance mandates, and technology solutions that just supported record transaction volume during some of the busiest shopping (and tax determination) days of the year. Because we hire for talent over experience, a lot of our team has opportunities here they might not get anywhere else, and we’re proud to be a company where people can stretch toward their professional potential. I’m sorry you didn’t have that experience. Best of luck in your next role.
