Typical Equity Partner Aqusition with Short-Sighted Executives

Pros

Will give you the experience necessary for work elsewhere. Some of the staff are exceptional human beings

Cons

Convey Compliance (the Minnetonka Office) was an extraordinary place to work. The culture was fantastic, pay was competitive, and the work was fun. Once they were acquired by Vista Equity Partners and merged with Taxware (Wilmington Office) the Executives of Convey were let go, and the Executives at Taxware took over. The Executives were in-charge of a small and failing company until Convey was merged with them and provided a much needed infusion of money, experience and expertise which was quickly alienated. The culture changed rapidly to a churn of employees to satisfy the reduction in Cost of Goods Sold in order to position for the next sale of the brand. Human Resources is a joke, you are more likely to be fired for looking at them the wrong way than to be able to discuss real issues relating to your employment.

Fun peers, poor business direction and leadership

Pros

This is a young, energetic company with a lot of potential to be a great place to work. They have a start-up type feel with a mixture of corporate environment.

Cons

I was in a few different roles at Sovos with poor experiences in all of them. It is painfully obvious that the CEO does not care about the operations area and it was very unfortunate to see that. In addition, the operations area has little to no upward mobility and the hours are incredibly long. The sales and marketing area of the company has constant attrition, with that comes constant territory re-alignment and client dissatisfaction. It becomes very difficult to guarantee and sort of consistency for clients. The marketing area is so under resourced it cannot begin to keep up with the business demands and is very poorly managed. The sales teams are just about on their own for any sort of greenfield/prospecting. Companies are acquired and cultures clash with little plan for synergy of the businesses. Promises are not kept, the business has no sense of direction, leadership is disappointing.

Pros

-Free snacks, coffee, and drinks in the kitchen

Cons

-High expectations right out of the gate, you must be as good or very near as good as your veteran coworkers in a short time or you will be fired -Many coworkers will make you feel like an outsider -Words of growth in this company are a little untrue, you will need to stay in your position for 12 months before trying to move anywhere else in the company -Software is extremely outdated and slow, seems the IT department is very underfunded for hardware -Technical issues are a norm, don't be surprised if you have trouble doing your job because vital software functions are down -Mostly negative reinforcement, you may hear more about how you can get fired than succeed -Don't get too friendly with anyone, as they can come in one day and be told they are finished -Pay is underwhelming considering all the stresses involved that keep morale at a constant low

Sovos Response

Thank you for providing your feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to share your input. Regarding growth within the company, you are correct we do ask that our employees stay within their Department for 12 months, to ensure they have fully embraced and understood the role and technology we use. However, those interested in opportunities within the same department may be eligible as early as 6 months from beginning their employment. Our organization does have a certain level of expectation for all within our company because we believe in setting a strong standard that our clients and employees can be proud of. Again, we appreciate your feedback and will continue to make improvements to ensure a highly engaged and talented workforce.
