Pros

Get to work on the F9 Rocket

Cons

Literally, everything else. Mgmt is a terrible. You’re nothing but a body and a face to work as little hours as they deem necessary. Within 6 months it went from no more than 50 hours per week to 40, then back to 50, then mandatory 60. No consistency whatsoever. They will lie to your face with smile. They promise certain things in the initial interview in which they DO NOT follow through on. Engineering planning is abhorrent. You'd think after doing this for almost 20 years, they'd have it down by now, but no. They'll hire engineers right out of college with little to no experience just so they don't have to pay for quality. Not saying that there aren’t good engineers there, they’re just so few of them. Working on the boosters is one of the coolest jobs to have, but having to put up with everything else that comes with it, IS NOT WORTH IT. The most senior techs are searching for other jobs as I'm writing this. That's how bad it is.

Pros

- Lots of Veterans, and being one myself made the transition from the military very easy. - Free Coffee - Amazing experience of getting to use very expensive technology.

Cons

- Lots of politics and social drama - Poor leadership that doesn't look out for their subordinates. - Super low pay. - Doesn't match 401k contributions. - Horrible retention rate, which means 99% of the people there haven't been there longer than two years, so everyone is new and no one is really an expert at anything. - Very unrealistic due dates for production that cause people to rush through work and mess things up, half the job is fixing mistakes that were made during the initial build.

Pros

The mission is second to none, if you love space and rockets. Even after witnessing roughly 50 launches from the inside, they were still exciting. The software department was a pretty tight-knit group, and I felt that my work was relevant and appreciated. I was very happy with my manager and director as well.

Cons

Not a 9-to-5 job, although the hours are much more reasonable than they were a few years ago. Some inter-department drama. Probably not more than any other mid-size company though. Priorities can shift rapidly, which can be viewed as either exciting or frustrating depending on how open to change you are.
