Pros

Poor working conditions, inadequate staffing, and low pay create high turnover which means good opportunity for advancement for someone with their eye on building a resume. Excellent amount of paid vacation is the only reason anyone stays for long.

Cons

Poor working conditions, inadequate staffing, low pay, and high turnover create huge problems. Staff, even in higher positions often have little idea what they're doing, Spectrum's status as the "end-of-the-road" school means that many students have extreme, often violent behaviors. Most people are not capable of working this job, and those that are generally leave this company because their skill and fortitude is better rewarded elsewhere. It is my honest belief that this industry should not be for profit, and the enormous amount of local tax dollars that are funneled through school districts and sent through this wormhole to scumsucking investors in a company in Nashville disgusts me. Anyone invested in this company is being paid dividends passing by inadequately serviced students and staff so severely underpaid that most full time classroom staff work an additional job every day of the week.

Pros

Intense concentrated experience gained in the special needs field. Huge intrinsic rewards. Exciting environment to work in,

Cons

Pay is low for the field. Training and knowledge or supervisors is minimal. If you're coworkers slack off it can turn into a huge liability for yourself
