Pros

You can really impact children's lives on a daily basis. There is a tight community of staff and educators that collaborate to improve skills of Special needs children. Most of the management advanced from classroom positions so they understand needs of the classroom and most tend to be very involved in the IEP and educational process. Paid time off is huge benefit!

Cons

Pay is lower in education anyway and pay at Spectrum is not competitive for the challenging work you do. There have been some major changes in the last year. Teacher salaries are quite competitive now and classroom assistant positions have seen significant increase. But they need to do better in order to reduce turnover and retain the passionate and trained staff.

Pros

Helping to positively impact the lives of the children you work with. Paid "vacation" when students are not on campus.

Cons

Very low pay with little to no room for advancement. Money is placed above the needs of the students and employees. Upper level employees lack supervisory skills and treat lower level employees extremely poorly. Director is often gone or unavailable and consistently unprofessional. Staff is miserable-a lot of drama on a daily basis. Pay is extremely low considering staff is often dealing with violent and aggressive pupils. Much of how the business is ran needs a lot of improvement-the masses created by upper level empoyees trickles down and eventually negatively affects students and staff.
