Pros

Pay, Benefits, and Retirement. Leadership ruins the job.

Cons

As part of the management team, you would think I would have a say and be included in the leadership or decisions that affect the Support Desk or even the shift that I manage, not a chance. Ex 1. During interviews for a NE 1 contractor, 2 candidates were screened by our technical lead, my Director, and myself. I felt during the screening that the individuals were not the right fit nor had the technical abilities to be successful on the support desk. The Director asked about them and I gave my feedback that we should continue searching. I was over-ruled and informed that the Director had picked one of the applicants. I felt this applicant was the worst of the 2, but past experiences has taught me not to criticize leadership decision unless I wanted to be written up again without warning. The applicant could not pass the our certification test and was let go in 4 weeks. Ex 2. The decision was made to move one of the engineers from 3rd shift to 1st shift just after I left for vacation without any input from me. Upon my arrival back to the office, I see the move and point out that the time-off calendar was not reviewed and the new dynamics will leave 3rd shift with 1 engineer over night. This forces yet another engineer to modify their work scheduled for the next 2 weeks for coverage. I have been made to feel unappreciated, un-trusted, and left in the dark in this position. Information is not passed down to the managers or the engineers in a timely manner and managers are not a part of the leadership team. The lessons that I have learned from the leadership team are to care less about my duties at work; just do my daily duties and not contribute anything more. I should NEVER challenge, question, or provide input to the leadership. NEVER EVER provide criticism unless you want to be blindsided with a write-up and Performance Improvement Plan. AND if you think that work from home is an option, think again. Even though this company has the ability and proven that remote working is possible, they do not have a 'Work From Home Policy' and therefore cannot happen. Not even for a single employee that is immune-compromised during a pandemic.

Pros

Medical, dental and wellness benefits. Free services.

Cons

For almost two solid years I would cry on my way in to work. It's that bad and it's not even the customers it's the management & the supervisors. The metrics aren't just for sales jobs. They have metrics for Billing Reps, & Retention Reps. The metrics are inhumane, abusive & do not promote good customer service. Those metrics do not allow any employee to give the kind of customer service that people deserve! This company is extremely anti-union, hence, employees NEED TO UNIONIZE! Working there was like being in an abusive relationship. No matter what you did it was never good enough. You'd get a pat on the back & in the very same conversation you'd get a slap in the face. Also, if you go to the bathroom outside of your 30 minute lunch & two 15 minute breaks that is marked against you. Then, you are reprimanded in your weekly coaching meeting with your supervisor which turns into a threat of disciplinary action & write-up. The only saving grace, & the thing that gets you through that warzone, are your fellow reps. I believe Spectrum pushes the envelope with labor laws which would make sense because a suit for unfair labor practices was just settled. RUN & DON'T LOOK BACK!!

No WFH Ever - Even During a Pandemic

Pros

Compensation and benefits are ok Opportunities to work on big projects

Cons

Upper management are very close minded, they want exactly what they want, with no flexibility. Your opinions do not matter. They don’t care about employees. WFH is not allowed even during the coronavirus outbreak. As a result, one employee came into the office after being at the same event with a confirmed coronavirus patient (the famous New Rochelle lawyer), even though he should be staying at home for at least 2 weeks based on health dept/CDC guideline. Charter is probably the only company of this size in NYC area that still does not allow WFH as of 3/18/20. The safety of employees mean nothing to them.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate your concerns as we work together through these unprecedented times. As one of FEMA’s Community Lifeline sectors, our services are essential to hospitals, emergency first responders, government facilities, the news media and our communities to stay connected, help flatten the curve and protect the country. Making sure we deliver these vital communications while supporting our employees is our top priority. We recently made a number of changes to operations that will help employees better manage through this challenging time. These include an additional 15 days of PTO to be used for any COVID-19 related need, plus increased social distancing plans in all of our call centers and operations facilities and the option for remote work for employees whose jobs allow it without endangering our obligation to provide critical services. We thank you for all you are doing every day to support our customers and communities to ensure they remain both connected and safe.
