As part of the management team, you would think I would have a say and be included in the leadership or decisions that affect the Support Desk or even the shift that I manage, not a chance.
Ex 1. During interviews for a NE 1 contractor, 2 candidates were screened by our technical lead, my Director, and myself. I felt during the screening that the individuals were not the right fit nor had the technical abilities to be successful on the support desk. The Director asked about them and I gave my feedback that we should continue searching. I was over-ruled and informed that the Director had picked one of the applicants. I felt this applicant was the worst of the 2, but past experiences has taught me not to criticize leadership decision unless I wanted to be written up again without warning. The applicant could not pass the our certification test and was let go in 4 weeks.
Ex 2. The decision was made to move one of the engineers from 3rd shift to 1st shift just after I left for vacation without any input from me. Upon my arrival back to the office, I see the move and point out that the time-off calendar was not reviewed and the new dynamics will leave 3rd shift with 1 engineer over night. This forces yet another engineer to modify their work scheduled for the next 2 weeks for coverage.
I have been made to feel unappreciated, un-trusted, and left in the dark in this position. Information is not passed down to the managers or the engineers in a timely manner and managers are not a part of the leadership team. The lessons that I have learned from the leadership team are to care less about my duties at work; just do my daily duties and not contribute anything more. I should NEVER challenge, question, or provide input to the leadership. NEVER EVER provide criticism unless you want to be blindsided with a write-up and Performance Improvement Plan.
AND if you think that work from home is an option, think again. Even though this company has the ability and proven that remote working is possible, they do not have a 'Work From Home Policy' and therefore cannot happen. Not even for a single employee that is immune-compromised during a pandemic.
