Pros

-New 401(k) match is great (Below Director level--100% of salary up to 6% plus an additional contribution of 3% regardless of contribution) -Lots of opportunities (especially if you're willing to move) -Interesting projects to work on

Cons

-Refuse to be upfront about pay (even to provide a range) when interviewing so you can end up on the low end of salary -Most opportunities at the corporate level are located in Stamford, CT which is VERY expensive in terms of living -Hit or miss with management being open to new ideas -Work/life balance is hit or miss

Pros

1. They produce news like a machine. It's effective and efficient but leaves little room for creativity, substance and quality. Just watch a newscast. 2.Negotiate your salary before hand. Once you start, there will be little to no room to make more money.

Cons

1. Some not all managers are absolutely conniving. Watch your back and who you talk with. 2. You won't feel satisfied working in this environment or with this news dept. 3. The company admits the way they review and promote people is antiquated. They are working to implement a new process. Don't expect to move up the ladder or the new process to happen anytime soon. 4. At times I was a leader among my peers but never felt like I even came close to my full potential. Your performance has to fit the mold of the product we produce. 5. I wanted to do a good job, but the company just sucked my will to do it. It's common to get backlash when you do things proactively. Imagine communicating with a team member or helping them complete a project, edit, story, or animation then getting reprimanded for doing so. Doesn't make sense does it? It's not just my story, I've seen it time and again with others. And don't just take my word for it. HR if you're reading this, be honest with yourself and ask some employees if they feel this is the case. 6. If you're a reporter looking to make a name for yourself in a big market don't expect a fair shot. You'll likely be stuck in an obscure bureau, covering weak stories with little room for growth. If you're fresh out of college then they would love to hire you but don't expect to make a career here. I've seen many reporters leave because they tire of the silly antics. I took the step and left and It was a fantastic decision! Good luck young journalism major, make the right decisions.
